Despite the many benefits that yoga has for our health and well being, some yoga postures can cause a worsening of the curvature and exacerbate the symptoms if they are performed repetitively and incorrectly.

Therefore it is often beneficial to integrate Schroth principles into a yoga program. Asanas can be modified and selected according to each curve pattern. The use of props and supports will help to maintain optimal alignment of the spine, prevent its deviation into unfavorable positions and eliminate associated symptoms of pain.

To address asymmetric function of the ribcage, lungs and diaphragm and improve the vital capacity, it is also beneficial to adopt the “Schroth Breathing Technique” into the yoga practice.
